It is easy to describe decimal numbers this way, because we have done no more than insert the decimal point at the one’s position. It is a little more challenging to learn how to convert a fraction from its numerator/denominator form to its equivalent decimal form. As with many mathematical ideas, we may avoid a long, wordy explanation by showing some key examples. Let us begin with some simple fractions. One perfect example of a decimal fraction less than 1 would be 1/10. Since 1/10 is exactly the value for the first decimal digit, that digit simply contains the numeral 1. We place a 0 in the one’s postion and a 1 in the 1/10 position, giving us 0.1.
