To show fractions, we will create digits to the right of the one’s position by using the same rule. In order to see which digit belongs to the one’s position, we place a period, called a “decimal point” to its immediate right. The digits to the right of the decimal point will then belong to the fractional part of the number. The counter shown below looks just like the ones we have been using except that the decimal point is visible at the one’s position. Each digit on the right then corresponds to a fraction that is 1/10 times the position on its left.
