The examples you have seen give you an intuitive feeling of how we may create decimal equivalents to a few simple fractions. Before leaving the subject, it is important to understand generally how to “decimalize” any fraction. Of course, the quickest way to convert a fraction is with a calculator, as is true with any kind of arithmetic. We take the time to learn a method here to gain understanding of some important mathematical concepts. The main idea that we have mentioned so far is that all rational numbers may be shown as the sum of well-chosen smaller numbers. To show them as decimals, we choose the smaller numbers that correspond to the decimal digits. Knowing this, and the rule that every decimal digit corresponds to 1/10 of the digit-value to its left, we proceed with a generalized decimal-conversion plan.
