The other most important thing to understand about natural numbers is that for any pair of them that are not the same number, one must be larger, or greater than the other. Two separate natural numbers cannot be the same size. The mathematical symbol that we use to show this comparison is “>”, which stands for “greater than.” The opposite symbol “<”, stands for “less than.” For example, we say that 2 > 1, and 3 < 4.
