In these examples, we have solved the equations by performing a substitution. We have applied the second equation to the first by substituting its known value for x. In this way, the combination of the two equations gives us a complete, unique solution. Let us continue with more examples of equations in the forms ax + by = c and dx = e. With these examples, we will need to perform some manipulations to isolate a variable before making the substitution. Again, we show the rational numbers in their decimal form.
