Algebra 5.20 - Substitution

As you manipulate the counters, you may notice right away that it is not difficult to find values that equalize either the x or y multipliers. You have only to adjust them until you reach a number that is divisible by each multiplier. With the counters and equations below, you may practice adjusting the counters until you find such a common multiplier. You will then see the equations subtract and combine into one that reveals the solution for the other variable.
