We have learned so far how equations in algebra often contain variables whose values are unknown. Some of these equations appear in the simple form, ax + b = c. In this form, the variable x represents the unknown value, while the constants a, b, and c stand for the known values. In this equation, we have only one unknown variable whose value we seek to determine. We have seen how it is possible to use the rules of algebra (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, commutative, associative, and distributive) to solve for the unknown value.
